I was out for a pre-dawn walk and the event happened while it was light out but just before the sun broke the horizon. The sky was mostly blue but there was some very light and low cloud haze. The event was bright enough to be easily seen through the light haze. I just happened to be looking in the right direction at the exact right moment and clearly saw the event with only a slight shift needed of my head and eye focus. I've never seen anything like this but it was really amazing. It felt so close and was moving so fast, I was sure I was going to hear a sonic bloom or an explosion so I immediately began counting so I could time how far away the event happened. However, when I got to 90 seconds, I realized I wasn't going to hear anything so I figured the event likely occurred farther away than I initially thought. I was walking on a sidewalk around a man-made reservoir at the time and I was on an elevated embankment portion raised about 50 feet from the surrounding terrain and adjacent Schram Road. This may have affected my apparent angle of view. I did my best to estimate the angle of view at the time. I was impressed by the width of the streak. I'm a 6 foot tall male with hands on the large size. If I extend my left arm out to full length in front of me, make a fist and extend my left thumb at 90 degrees to my fist and parallel with the ground that's about how thick the orange streak appeared. I could be mistaken on the length of time the sighting lasted. It may have been shorter than my estimated .75 seconds. It was quick but made a significant impression. |
