I was heading uphill on a pretty steady grade and the fireball first appeared not very far above the treeline at the top of the hill approximately 1 mile away. I had the impression that the fireball was heading northwest to southeast toward the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. I approximate the size of the fireball to be about the size of a dime held at arm's length. This was by far the largest shooting star I have ever seen.
