We were camping off the grid. No light pollution at all other than a dim campfire. Then a very bright flash. It was going east to west. Then darkness again. I figured it was fireworks so close to the 4th of July but thought it odd I had heard no sound associated with the flash. A few minutes later I heard a distant boom, unlike thunder though.
