Last night a couple of friends and I were walking around in Tumwater, WA and we saw a green flash go through the sky during the meteor shower. It occurred in the north and started high in the sky and appeared to come into our atmosphere and seemed like it landed somewhere on earth (or could have just disappeared off behind the horizon). If you were to put a ruler up to the sky the flash could have been at least an inch wide. We did a lot of research and apparently a bunch of other people said they saw the same thing ranging from Yelm, WA to British Columbia. People further south said they saw the flash in the north (like us) and people located further north said they saw it more off to the west. One person in the Kitsap area said that when the green flash came down to the horizon it was 5 times the diameter of the apparent size of the moon. So I was just wondering how plausible it is that we saw a meteor entering our atmosphere and possibly landing somewhere on the surface or in the ocean? Because this was such a cool sighting and I'm incredibly curious on all of the possible scenarios that could potentially be real based on what we saw. If you could give me any information regarding what I have told you that would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! |
