you could still see a very faint smoke trail that was lighter than the background sky (twilight), but it was faint and disappeared pretty quickly.

It looked like a "flame out." The meteor turned green at the end then got very bright before disappearing while still in the sky (didn't appear to hit the ground, or if it did, was not still visible)
