| Remarks | I've been a life-long casual observer of meteor showers, but this observation was the first I've ever seen that appeared to be so close to the ground, it occurred in late afternoon so the sky was still light. It first came into my view as what appeared to be leading with a small red colour, which fanned out to a tail that was blue fading into lighter blue, then white at the end. It was a compact tail. It lasted for perhaps 2 to 2 1/2 seconds then disappeared from view. It was moving extremely fast. It was an impressive spectacle to observe because it seemed so close, it convincingly appeared to be just below the cloud cover. To the casual observer it left the impression that it could have fallen into a nearby field a mile or so away. |
