Initial thought on seeing it was that someone had shot a firework up in the sky, but it looked more like a very large falling star. Had a spectacular bright green flash as it trailed down the southern sky and then was quickly gone.

Remarks
It was a sudden green flash that expanded for a second best described as looking like the explosion of a single cascading firework. Very bright, but burned out quickly.
