Remarks With my Orion XT8 positioned for the crescent moon, and awaiting a few minutes to traverse to a wider gap between the small oak tree branches, I stood looking West. A bright, faintly bluish object appeared moving rapidly from nearly northwest, and what appeared as parallel to the western horizon, though it may have traveled very slightly a few degrees negative of parallel, I kept my eyes fixed. Too fast for an aircraft, too straight for a firefly, and the light blue tint as well as brightness was in distinct contrast to all other objects. This included Venus which was white. Streaking southward, then behind the small oak tree (which was a good thing as I would have otherwise been burnt up), I took a couple steps to my left and leaned for a glimpse as it traveled back into clear view, the like a dying ember, the object trail thinned and vanished. Almost stunned that I looked westward as i witnessed the final 1.5 seconds of an object as old as the universe, I made a mental note for recall. I then walked into our house and related my observations to my wife. They are as recounted above.
