Remarks The trail was bright yellow and breaking up. The head of the fireball looked like an airplane that was on fire as it descended at a shallow angle traversing from west to east. Bright yellow flames could clearly be seen extending from the head region. When the object impacted beyond the horizon the northern sky lit up as if a bomb had exploded. The illuminated dome of light extended about 10 degrees on either side of true north and about 10 degrees upwards. We expected to hear the explosion but did not. We only caught the last 10 seconds of the descent before impact. We had been out in our field watching the aurora to the north and had just turned around to go back in the house when the object caught my eye just before it impacted.
