Remarks while sitting on the bluff in my backyard last night looking over the ledenwah creek waiting for the earth to fly through the tail of an unknown comet at around 11:15pm to produce the alpha monocerotid, or unicorn meteor storm, something very big, very bright, very close, very loud... like lightning combined with a large bomb followed by a sonic boom which sounded like thunder emerged from nowhere all at once. a large meteorite streaked right through my line of sight over the water towards charleston then exploded in a flash of light and an instantaneous sonic boom (weird physics). i slid to the front of the chair and realized sometime later my jaw was still dropped, mouth open, eyes wide. i’ve been reading about them this morning. they are once a year events. this’ll make the news. it was resonant of an existential event. no warning. no control. very large scale. like a fish must feel when a hand appears from a previously unrealized dimension. it appeared instantly as if from nowhere. i felt the explosion of the boom in my whole body. you know the one that flattened that forest in russia, tunguska? a tiny version of that. so rare. this thing on which we live is far more fragile than we accept daily. i felt a little like a dinosaur. what an experience! a cosmic fireworks show morphed into a rare glimpse of how precious and fragile our lives are. we really don’t have tomorrow. be grateful for today. https://www.postandcourier.com/news/brief-blast-of-shooting-stars-over-sc-expected-thursday-just/article_2c315a24-0bb4-11ea-abe7-1b30233dff10.html
