My family lives out in the country well enough away from streetlights that we are regular observers of the sky so we see fascinating things quite often as compared to those who live in the cities. This sighting was very unique in that it looked like a huge green firework when it fragmented but much too high in the atmosphere to actually be a firework, and also not during a time of year when people shoot fireworks. The color and the vividness of the sighting makes this one of the best I have seen in many years.

Remarks
A bright flash caught my eye just before fragmentation. The entire occurrence was green and appeared to be headed straight down from a very high point in the sky.As soon as my wife and I saw it, it fragmented into a shower of green sparks which faded at a high enough altitude that the glow was gone before it got close enough to the ground to track where it might have hit.
