It was UN World Space week event in the Bee & Embroidery Museum in Kato Drys, organized together with the KITION PLANETARIUM & OBSERVATORY. I was on my duties next to tables, when I heared the cry out of public. It took some time to understand what does it mean, and in 2-3 seconds after I noticed the movement of the fireball through leaves of grape as a dot of brightness -2m. I moved quickly to the more open area (2 seconds next) and made continues observation. One moment (hard to estimate, for so long meteor I observed for the second time in my life, let us say since 4 seconds of my continuous observation, that is since 6 seconds I noticed), on the 2/3 total path it was defenetely faded, but then gave flash described already. At the final position of observations, let us add next 4 seconds, when it faded enough not to see it anymore, it consisted of at least 3 bodies. At the first moment, when I noticed it, it looked more orange, but during all continues observations it looked to me red. Total duration is 2+4+4=10 seconds or so. The duration is based on inner feeling, no counting was conducted.
Importatn note. Due to behaviour of the meteor, I classify it as fireball, though formally personaly I never seen it as bright as -4m (please take it into consideration, for it should be marked -4m in order the report being accepted). I asked colleage, who observed it from beginning to the end about the brightness and she confirmed that it was bright enough to be reported. As the result, I asked her to make the report first, that is https://fireball.imo.net/members/imo_view/report/179592 and then I promiced her to add my 'dim' part of the observation, I'm adding this report without consulting with her or anyone and without looking at the details of her report, in order to have independent testimonies. |
