The arc was from beyond the top of our windows and it looked like the fireball landed in the lake well to the south. It lasted 2-3 seconds and was bright enough that I immediately snapped my head to look out the window when it moved into my peripheral vision. My husband thought it was a stray firework; I knew right away what it was.

Remarks
a loud bang (we were inside but it was audible); might have been about halfway through its big arc, which lasted 2-3 seconds. Our house is right on Lake Michigan and we had an unobstructed view of the pitch dark night sky out our large east-facing windows.
