Remarks My daughter was driving and I was a passenger in the car. We were returning from DTW airport on I96 west to Exit 110 in Okemos, Michigan. Just past exit 122, at approx. 12:40 am, Sat May 11, we saw a very bright “burning” object flying from north to south straight across the highway. It did not appear very high at that point, although my daughter was concerned it might have been a small plane. I immediatelt thought small meteorite due to its low height in the air (it appeared ready to crash land somewhere in a field south). It had a very bright orange burning front, and bright blue tail. As it passed the highway, we both saw what looked like flames. We could hear nothing, as the car windows were shut and radio on. At 12:46 am, I phoned the Ingham County Sheriff non-emergency number to report this, in case it had hit something or in case it was a plane. My daughter and I both described what we saw via speaker phone. On Sat, May 11, upon searching, I discovered a meteroite had been spotted over the Greater Chicago area around the same time as when we spotted this object. Also traveling north to south. Thinking perhaps the object we spotted could be a very small fragment split off from what ended up southwest in the Chicago area, I decided to file this report. Hope it helps! Would love to hear any confirmation of what it was we saw.
