My knowledge is limited to being a former earth science teacher and military brat. I am certain what I saw was not affiliated with military activity despite our proximity to Fort Bragg and Camp McColl as it did not look or sound (no sound actually) like the military activity I am familiar with.

I saw a bright light green trail before it quickly burst into the same green color, but much more brighter and intense.
