Remarks | I was driving east on Nine Mile Road during a thunderstorm at night. My location along the road is approximate. Time is very close as the 8:00 PM news came on the radio a few minutes earlier. I saw a small, bright white ball of fire with a very short tail just above the town of Highland Springs, to the right of the road; it disappeared from view behind the treetops to the right (in the direction of I-64). Estimated angle of descent 30 to 40 degrees. The size of the ball of fire, if it was as close as it seemed, seemed comparable to a softball (if one could be made of pure light), with a tail about the same length as the body. Body and tail both very bright white. I\'ve seen shooting stars, far away in the night sky, but never anything like this. |
