Reports Report 5768b (Event 5768-2018)

Observer
Name Catherine C
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I think something might have survived and fell to earth. After the fireball, a black object came from it and was intact. Considering how far away it might have been, seeing a black object means this meteor might have been quite large. Size of black object guess, is hard to say as the fireball illuminated it as they separated. Watermelon sized? I know that is very large, but that is my guess.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 99.99s
Length 10°
Remarks I am a little vague on the length of the train. The train lasted at least 15 minutes. I went into Safeway and came out to a dark sky, no more visible trail. The train was straight, at a 15 degree or so angle. The upper atmosphere moved the train to the south, south / west.
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks I first saw the train, then a bright light, it looked almost like a bottle rocket explosion. Light of train was bright white, explosion / flash was fairly long lasting. It was a very bright white fireball.
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks After the flash, I saw a black object continuing to fall to earth. Wish I new where it landed. Maybe in the ocean, maybe the hills above Half Moon Bay, (ish).
