Remarks My wife and I were walking the dogs to stay warm while our eyes dark adapted for a night of viewing. We were looking at the skies in anticipation of our observation session. But near the end of the walk, we were treated to our best sight of the evening, before I had even set up my telescope!

Remarks The streaking yellowish point of light rapidly expanded into a large orange-red ball with visible flame. The flame appeared slightly conical, with a smaller leading edge flaring to a larger trailing edge. At its largest, its apparent diameter was perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 that of the full moon.
