Remarks It was so bright. I’m no expert, but I’ve seen plenty of meteor showers. This was different. It had a long tail and was colorful, though on reflection the colors that stood out to me were red, white and yellow. Any meteors I’ve seen are generally white. I was using no special equipment to observe it, I was quite literally on my back porch, turned my head and saw it come across the sky. I was facing south. It seemed to go on a diagonal course from maybe northeast to southwest. I stayed a minute or two to see if I could observe more or hear anything from it, but did not on either account. It may have occurred a minute or so before 12am, 8/30/18, but by the time I came in my house and found this website, it was about 12:10am, so I tried to estimate time wise as close as I could. It was visible for about 2 - 4 seconds, but my sense of time in seconds isn’t spot on. Last observation, it was larger than the typical meteor I’ve seen as far as width. The “head” of it was definitely larger than the tail end, rather than being more like a line as I usually see in meteors, so whatever was at the leading edge was definitely a bit larger. Oh and it was lower than the Moon and Mars in the sky, but above the top of the tree line.
