Was remotely controlling our 60cm telescope at Sierra Remote Observatories that has two dedicated IP cameras + several other site cameras for visual feedback. Both of our cameras suddenly completely overexposed at 23:21:21. Then I saw in Camera 1 (pointed towards SE) a very bright object moving fast towards the SE, way faster than airplanes that we get regularly in the field. Camera 2 pointing to SW did not catch the object but shows how the entire building was illuminated for some seconds. While both of our IP cams have internal SD cards to store continous video for 7 days, the SD card in camera 1, where I saw the fireball directly on my control monitor while I was working at the telescope, had died, so that recording is lost. The SD card in camera 2 is functional, and this is the video I have uploaded. I asked the observatory to check the all-sky camera footage and obtained a 27s exposure that shows the enitre fireball. (A higher resolution image than the one that I have sent you might be available.) Despite the vast amount of IP cameras on the site, it seems no other camera has a video recording, as no attempt is made to store recordings. I will continue to check if any other camera or customer on site has footage of the fireball. |
