Remarks I watch the night sky every chance I get on a clear night...often just after sun set or late night early morning. It has become one of my favorite things to do especially with all the things we see from my home. We have seen some amazing and strange things in the sky around us especially this year. This was the most dramatic and beautiful of them all and possibly the scariest. Although I was quite sure it was not alien in nature it appeared to close for my comfort. I was torn between grabbing my kids to run for shelter or standing there waiting to see and hear impact. I neither heard or saw one in that direction. We did hear several booms in other directions but believed those to be fireworks.

Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks It appeared as a huge bright flash just under the very bright star looking south from my front yard. It seemed to appear out of nowhere directly under that star. It looked like a huge ball of white light that quickly took on the shape of a tic tac shape maybe 6 inches long...from my view point at its largest size...including the tail. The outer edges were glowing a bit yellowish orange and it was heading west looking south and it was visable all of the way into our tree line. There was a slight tail I would say but did not leave a trail in the sky after it was gone. I waited to hear a loud boom or a flash from impact. From my yard it looked like any impact would be not far to our south over the connetic River or just into Vermont. I do not have an exact time although the first of the nights stars were clearly visable but looking north west over Mount Ascutney the sky was still blue some. I am guessing it was right around 9 PM latest to as early as 8:30.
