Reports Report 2229o (Event 2229-2018)

Remarks I have no experience and just happened to catch this event. I found this website in an attempt to confirm what I saw. You don't have to be an experienced astronomer to be confident that this was a rare sight. It appeared to be the same size as a plane at cruising altitude and I almost disregarded it. What caught my attention was it's speed (appearing to move about 10x faster than a plane could be expected to be moving across the sky at that height) and that I could make out an odd contrail, which was clearly billowing dark grey which disappeared behind it as it moved instead of a consistent white streak. I could clearly see an object between the consistent light in the front and the smoke trail behind. The light from the front was a bit of red followed by a larger amount of white. The glow was so consistent that I, again, almost disregarded it as a plane's lights. Despite my chance and inexperienced siting, I am certain of what I saw because of the nature of the smoke trail, the outline of the object, it's speed (the clarity with which I saw it makes me think it was quite low, but moving rapidly) and its immediate dimming to disappearance. I was fully fixated on it for about 5 seconds. I hope the above makes clear the impression it made on me. I just happened to be sitting on a roof-deck looking up on a perfectly clear night. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have and would love to get any sort of confirmation that I was not the only person who witnessed this event.
