Remarks | I was walking east on JFK Blvd when the meteor caught my attention to the southeast. From my perspective, it was large and moving very fast from south to the northeast. I initially thought it was a helicopter with its spotlight on and, using a helicopter as a comparison, it only appeared to be two or three blocks away. But it was noticeably quiet, which didn\'t make sense. I immediately noticed a dark gray smoke trail behind it and wondered for a moment if the helicopter was in trouble. Then, as it passed above the Masonic Temple (corner of JFK Blvd and N. Broad St), approximately six small fragments detached from the main body and trailed off. At that moment, I realized I was watching a meteor disintegrate. Approximately one-half second later, the meteor disappeared behind several buildings. |
