Remarks | I was driving east on Prospect Ave. in Santee when I saw the fireball. The fireball appeared very large, about half the size of a full moon. I could literally see the ball of fire rolling and tumbling and burning. I could see the flames, it wasn\'t just a distant light in the sky. It started high in the east sky and was falling pretty much straight down, a little bit from south to north. At first I thought it was a plane that had exploded and was falling out of the sky (a lot of small planes fly into Gillespie Field which was just to the south of me). I thought it would crash about a mile to the east of where I was. Then I thought maybe it was a meteor and that if it landed we might be in trouble. Then right before it got to the horizon it burned out. It must have lasted a little more than 10 seconds. It was an amazing sight that I will never forget. |
