At first I thought the flash I saw was bright sheet lightening. Then I saw the trail that looked like the remnants of a flair or a very bright shooting star, or perhaps the remnants of fireworks. Our valley was heavy with forest fire smoke and I think that is why the flash and remnant appeared orange.

I would estimate 2-4 minutes after seeing the fireball I heard a huge boom. It sounded like an explosion, not like thunder. It rattled our windows and shook the house.

Remarks
An initial flash out my bedroom window caught my eye. I looked at the window in time to see the whole sky (at least as much as I could see) light up in a huge flash. After the the flash I saw the shooting star-like trail.
