Remarks I'm a retired USAF officer and an astronomy enthusiast. The morning was dark, with a faint glow of city lights from Washington DC Metro Area on the cloud deck. The cloud deck was at approximately 5000 feet. I believe the meteor was above the clouds or far away, as there was no reflection visible on the cloud deck. I have never seen a meteor with such a vivid green color -- I reported the sighting to the local police, because I thought it might be a pin flare. That said, the meteor appeared approximately 45 degrees above the horizon -- possibly through a break in the clouds -- and fell slowly to the horizon, taking 2-3 seconds to complete its descent. It disappeared to the south, possibly in the direction of Leesburg, VA or Dulleas International Airport. It was the most impressive fireball I've seen in a decade.
