This fireball was larger and appeared closer than any "shooting stars" I'd ever seen in the past and I had never seen a fire burst and then it disappear like this before. I assumed it had disintegrated upon hitting the earth's atmosphere

Remarks
I was driving home from a class when I suddenly saw a good sized fireball shooting towards the earth from up in the sky. There was a sudden flash and fire burst as it hit a certain level of the sky, then disappeared. It was dark so I couldn't see "fragmentation" (if there was any) after this.
