Remarks Have seen hundreds of shooting stars but I think this puppy might have hit the ground, or it was just the closest I've ever been to one. The had was throwing out sparks like mad as it got its lowest point before it disappeared. I was driving and even if my eyes were not always directly on it the whole 3 seconds, couldn't help but see it. I'm sure everyone else on the highway saw it too, even if they were not looking at the sky!!

Remarks Tail lasted from first sight of it falling until the larger bright head shot out "sparks" around the head before disappearing...when head disappeared the tail disappeared quickly behind it (I was driving when I saw it) - in other words, the tail seemed to have the same life span as the entire incident itself, until it disappeared quite low. Tail was almost a straight line ABOVE the meteor but seemed to be 'curving' towards me eastward. It seems to come almost vertically downward towards the end of seeing it and seemed as if it was falling towards me so I was going west it seems to be falling eastward right towards me...closest I've ever been to one...looked just like a "falling star" you see far in the sky and tiny but this one was much larger and seemed I was very close to it. Would guess it was a close as coming down somewhere in or just west of St. Charles County, Missouri, just west of St. Louis. I saw it at exactly 9:00 pm just as I was passing Lambert St. Louis Airport and it was just a hair south of the I-70 coming at me east ward as I drove due west. WOW what a sight!!
