Where question #9 asked about brightness relative to Venus, and I reported it was BRIGHTER than Venus (-7), I really meant it appeared the same white color and INTENSITY that Venus would have on a clear night (in power per solid angle), but WIDER or FATTER compared to Venus. In my perception, the INTENSITY of Venus always beats the Moon. What I saw appeared FAT compared to Venus, or any aircraft landing lights I would see at this location.
Also, after the sighting registered in my mind, I checked the sky, and no stars were visible, so you might call that overcast.
Also, a few seconds later, I saw an aircraft's landing lights in the same general direction, moving in a different direction [flying roughly south, following the Potomac river to land at Washington National (some of us will never call DCA "Reagan")]. The landing lights looked a little hazy because of the overcast. By the way, I've lived here 20 years, and I'm very familiar with recognizing aircraft patterns over this area (like a "missing man" flyover of National Cemetery, etc.), so I know my sighting was not an aircraft. |
