A group of us were stargazing at the Milky Way standing in a circle in the shelter of pines. Those facing north saw the light against the pines when those of us facing south exclaimed. The north-facing folks got turned around in time to see the last half of the burn. I have never seen anything so bright and colorful a "shooting star" in the night sky before and have been watching Perseids and Leonids most of my life.
