Remarks I was awakened from a sound sleep by moonlight in the western sky coming through a window. I turned to go back to sleep and through a window that faces NW, I saw the meteor. My sighting was very distinct but it was only for 2-3 seconds before it disappeared below my visible horizon. It was so bright and large (and as I said, it seemed to sparkle, so I thought it might be a meteor that was breaking apart), that I laid awake for several minutes thinking I might hear an explosion. I've seen meteors (shooting stars) before, but this was truly a giant - quite exciting - a little terrifying. I thought the original light was the moon in the west, but now I am not sure if it was that or the meteor. My bedroom has a high ceiling and there is a small window above the normal set of windows through which the moon often shines. I would say that elevation of that window is about 30 degrees from the horizontal of my bed and it faces West. I suppose it is entirely possible that the original light that woke me up was the meteor and not the moon.
