It appeared to be the moon but then I realized it was closer and that's when the flash happened. Thought it was a search Helicopter at first in trying to explain it.

Thought the 'light' was the moon but in the wrong direction for that. Then it was bright like lightening but in a ball and the whole sky lit up. Next there was a 'ray/arc' downward.
