Remarks | On 1/30/2016 at approx. 6:20pm, I was driving in a dark rural area with my 15 y/o in the front passenger seat when we observed this meteor. Our car was headed West/NW, and the meteor appeared as a very bright, fast streak of white light, first visible from the top right of the windshield. It was visible for approx. 3-4 seconds, and seemed to be traveling in the same direction as our vehicle. The fast-moving streak ended in a brilliant, large, rounded flash of light. Our windows were up, so if there happened to be a sound associated with it, we did not hear it. We often watch meteor showers, and although we've seen many meteors, we've never seen one so large or bright, nor seen one end with a bright flash. We consider ourselves very lucky to have witnessed it! |
