Reports Report 4166a (Event 4166-2015)

Observer
Name Dennis L
Experience Level 4/5
Remarks Location: Landed approx 46 degrees North, 120 degrees West at a an elevation of 1004 ft. in Union Gap Washington. Time: Approx 4:20 AM Saturday morning on May 2nd, 2015. I was riding my bicycle South on Rudkin Rd when I noticed on my right an orange fireball with a fragmenting tail falling from the North at a angle of approx 70 degrees.(We decided to use North as zero ) I watched it for about 3 seconds until it disappeared behind the top of the trees west by south west of my position...and it looked real close. I looked for it that morning some but decided to wait until it was daylight. Later that day I looked around for it where I thought it may had landed but was unsuccessful. It wasn't until the end of June that once again I was on my bike waiting for one of my sons to catch up with me when I noticed in the corner of a fence a large black round thing that was out of place. Some grass was growing up around it and when I lifted it up I could see the ground underneath was burnt. This was only 50 feet east from where I was looking 2 months earlier. This must be what I saw fall back in May. It had landed approx 975 ft from where I observed it falling. (Used Google Earth) Dennis Lowe This was prepared by Mark McConnell with the help of Dennis Lowe. I did my best to obtain accurate information from him about an event that happened earlier this year. The meteorite he has is definitely unusual and we have had difficulty classifying it due to it strange nature. I can see where the tail was emanating from the top and the bottom being flat while all around it is a crumbly charcoal like texture littered with nano-diamonds. It's amazing this thing didn't crumble on impact. It must had been hot enough that it was not brittle, but soft at the time of impact. mcmark_online@yahoo.com
