Experience Level | 3/5 |
Remarks | I have never reported a meteor, as I've seen many meteor showers. However, this startled me because it was such a huge flash of light that lit the sky BEHIND me, causing me to turn around and see a low meteor in the NE sky with a tail that was not long but quite wide and pointing mostly straight down and then immediately extinguishing completely. This was not the "streaking" sort of meteor I'm used to seeing. It reminded me more of the first night Hale Bopp was visible hanging in the sky short and fat. |

Remarks | The train was very wide. The widest I've ever seen. Almost 1/3 as wide as it was long. It had multiple distinct particles. It glowed orange. |
Terminal flash | |
---|---|
Observation | Yes |
Remarks | I was actually facing away from the meteor when the flash occurred. There was a very bright flash of light behind me, which was brighter than lightning. It was so bright, it startled me, so I turned around and saw the meteor as it descended with a short but wide tail. |
