Reports Report 1062s (Event 1062-2014)

Observer
Name David C
Experience Level 5/5
Remarks Seen while driving east on highway 401. No chance to listen for any sound over traffic noise. Event time from GPS in car. Very brief event compared to most bolides I've seen - at most 2 seconds. (Not a 'grazer'...?) Very bright - est. -10 to -15. Nearly vertical path towards ENE horizon, no more than 5 degrees from vertical, upper end of path more northerly than bottom end. Much brighter than daytime Iridium flares I have seen which are typically -7 to -9 mag. A small amount of fragmentation occurred near the beginning of the path. A 'contrail' was formed, the great majority of which dissipated within a minute or two. A larger clump of cloud at the upper end of the path, coinciding with the fragmentation, persisted clearly for at least 10 minutes until blocked by clouds. Temp 13C, clear blue sky with 10% cloud cover of fair weather cumulus. I am a 50+ years amateur astronomer for what that is worth.
