Reports Report 312cd (Event 312-2014)

Observer
Name Barraco T
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks This happened a few hours ago. I was driving southbound down Fort St. getting ready to turn westbound on Sibley when I saw a fireball straight ahead in the distance that burned out in the sky. It lasted for one second or less and was the color of fire (yellow-orange). I think it came from the west to the east or southwest to northeast, but it happened so quickly that my mind didn't have time to process it. I thought maybe a transformer exploded because from my line of vision it occurred above a row of street lights, but I took another look before turning and all street lights were on with no power outages. I thought maybe someone was lighting fireworks but that was unlikely because there was not sound and it is very cold out (zero degrees). I did not hear any sonic boom or explosion. I considered reporting it to the police but I thought they would think I was crazy. I went home and looked on the internet to see if anyone else had reported it, but could find no other reports, at least not immediately. A few hours later I looked on the internet again and saw several reports in Michigan and Ohio, of a fireball at 8:15 pm, including one observation within 5 miles of my location, so I decided to report it.
