Remarks | I was at the Chimney Rock campsite in the Maze district of Canyonlands N.P. I witnessed the meteor near the horizon to the right of Chimney Rock and above Island in the Sky, which is 11 miles to the north. The meteor traveled downward from left the right roughly 19 to 20 degrees east of north. It cycled through a series of spectral colors, red, white and blue or similar, ending in a brilliant flash. I thought perhaps this colorful display was a firework launch from the campsite on Island in the Sky, but this seemed unlikely being in a National Park. Once I got home I learned from this website that the same meteor was witnessed as far north as Idaho and Montana and was similarly described. |
