Reports Report 1553f (Event 1553-2012)

Observer
Name warren w
Experience Level 2/5
Remarks When I was younger I used to go out with friends to dark areas out of town and try to observe meteors, especially when the named showers would occur. I\'ve seen many pencil-thin streaks that were, while exciting to see, pretty non-eventful. This was like nothing I had ever seen before. Even around bright ground lights and with me driving concentrating on the road this was VERY obvious. Took me a few seconds to realize that it had to be a meteor I had seen as I could come up with no other explanation. Thought I would see or hear something about it on the local news this morning but nothing so far. The fact that it happened during what\'s probably the quietest part of the night might be the reason for that.

Delayed Sound
Observation No
Remarks Like I mentioned before, I was driving, and it was a chilly enough night that I did not have the windows down to hear anything. Might have been a sound but I heard nothing.
Persistent train
Observation No
Duration -1s
Length -1°
Remarks I was driving highway speed when the event occurred so it was difficult to keep a fixed eye on it beyond the actual streak itself. There might have been a train but with city lights/headlights and the fact I was behind the wheel I did not observe one. But the initial light from the streak was bright enough that it caught my attention out of the corner of eye despite the fact I was looking straight ahead watching the road. Sorry I don\'t know more about the train!
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks Again I was driving so if there was fragmentation I saw none. The streak did \"flame out\" with a slightly brighter flash so I think this is what you mean by a terminal flash.
Fragmentation
Observation No
