Reports Report 1320l (Event 1320-2012)

Observer
Name Matthew D
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks I wish I had more I could tell you. Appeared high in the horizon, WSW, originating near Lyre/Vega (but at least 10-15° lower), extremely bright, brighter than any object I\'ve seen in the sky save the sun and full moon. I saw two smaller fragments trailing behind as it neared the horizon, and it left behind a faint, but apparent train for 2-3 seconds. It produced no boom or overt pop. The predominant color was bright emerald green. It moved somewhat slower than any other large fireball I have seen (which is about a dozen). It was magnificent.

Concurrent Sound
Observation Yes
Remarks -
Delayed Sound
Observation No
Remarks I heard no boom, or any impact sound, during or after the fireball vanished. I did hear what sounded like a fairly deeply pitched hiss and crackle, with about a two to three second delay.
Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 2s
Length 12.5°
Remarks It was very brief, and not extremely bright. But it was a very visible, delayed trail of light, mostly green/orange the same as the initial fireball and its trail. No smoke that I could see. It faded quickly and that was it.
Terminal flash
Observation Unknown
Remarks As it neared the horizon, I was waiting for it to explode or pop, and while I saw very obvious fragments behind the main object, at least two, I saw no clear explosion or disintegration.
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
