Remarks | I was sitting at my computer looking out the window when what appeared to be a very bright falling star caught my attention as it quickly made its way across the sky. Newark and Morristown airports are closeby and I frequently observe lights in the sky at night, but this bright ball of light looked nothing like a plane or helicopter light, moved much faster than any plane or helicopter, and fell at an angle not typical of any plane or helicopter that has ever passed overhead. The object looked like a very large star falling in the west-west/northwest sky. Instead of dying out like falling-shooting stars I\'ve observed in the past, it continued to fall extremely fast and bright, seemingly very close. From my perspective the object looked as if it would make impact between Short Hills and Morristown, north of Rt 24. It disappeared from my view as it continued down in the far distance behind the tree line on the adjacent golf course. I fully expected some sort of impact, but did not hear or see anything further. I believe what I saw was a falling star - meteor. |
