What made me look in that direction, and I believe it was the object that made the noise, was closest to a hissing sound. Reminded me somewhat of the hissing that some fireworks make.

It looked like mini fire balls trailing the large (not exactly sure it was a train or smaller objects) but it also seemed to turn into a dark smoke that faded into the color of the dark sky
