We were driving Southbound on NY State Rte 87 with radio on within 10 miles or so of Catskill with eyes focused on fairly dark highway and little northbound traffic to distract us. The object appeared low in the sky traveling at a gentle incline down just to the SSE of us, but since we don't know our exact location we can only narrow the direction we were traveling to the direction the highway curves in that area, SW to SSE. There was no bright flare at any time and no tail. It was bright as Venus on a dark night but about 10 times the size. It looked light a large, close pane had just turned directly toward us as it prepared to land and caught our eye, but we both immediately realized it was traveling directly perpendicular and was not an aircraft. It disappeared in 3 or 4 seconds. |
