I don't know what the "sizzling" sound was, and it baffles me as an engineer given the speed of sound... but that sound is what made me look up to see this amazing meteor!

The tail grew longer and more yellow towards its final seconds, and seemed to pulse before it burst, fragmenting.

Two pieces fractured off of the back side, both smaller than the remaining main section, and detached with an angle of about 60° between them. They "extinguished" fairly quickly.
