Remarks | I am an airline pilot and we were beginning our descent into Raleigh. I see meteors from time to time, but this one was very different in that even though it was very bright, it seemed to be moving much slower than the typical (shooting star). I'm not sure exactly where we were, but if I were to guess I would say approximately 50 miles north of Raleigh. The brightness of the meteor caught my eye out of the west moving straight down where I could see a smoke trail following it. It then (exploded) if I were to guess somewhere above 30000 ft. It is hard to say its exact location but it seemed close perhaps within 100 miles maybe 50 miles. If interested I may be able to give a better location based on a frequency hand-off that occurred right after the sighting. |
