Reports Report 4310fc (Event 4310-2017)

Observer
Name Linda R
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks Yes. The next day or so after arriving in Albuquerque, I saw a video showing the meteorite above Phoenix. There are two lights in the sky in that video and I believe the second smaller light is the red glowing portion that I saw break off of the main yellow fireball.

Remarks As we were driving on Hwy 17 about 45 miles out of Phoenix, the hills and the road in the distance ahead of us lit up almost like daylight. The light got so bright we could see shadows as it seemed to pass above our vehicle and on the right. I immediately looked out the passenger window (my husband was driving) and in the sky very, very close to us and seemingly not very far above the hills was a huge yellow flaming fireball. I could actually see flaming on the front part. The back end was glowing bright red and suddenly broke off from the main part. The red glowing part appeared to be about a fourth or less the size of the yellow fireball. Both the yellow fireball and the red glowing portion continued moving to my right with the red glowing part following slightly behind the yellow flaming fireball and then suddenly disappeared out of view behind the hillside to my far back right. It was the most amazing sight!
