Reports Report 331ar (Event 331-2011)

Observer
Name Loyd P
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks The movement of the object was very slow compaired to most meteors I have observed in the past (I'm 68 years). As I said, this is only the second one I have seen in my life that looked to be exactly the same. Both were to the west at a movement to the north. When it evaporated, it turned from bright lime green to a bright white and very few break offs.

Remarks The meteor was moving slowly from the southwest to the north (we were looking directly west) at about 4 fingers above the horizon, It was losing altitude from, say 40 degrees to about 30 degrees. It was first seen as bright lime green for about 4 ot 5 seconds then turned a bright white, broke into what looked like 4 pieces several larger tha the others and faded from sight. There was no trail of any signifance, it was more of a ball. I first thought that a part of a plane had broke off and was falling, but it was moving horizonal. I have only seen one other meteor like this and it was about 45 years ago same place.
Terminal flash
Observation No
Remarks Described above. When it broke up there was no bright explosion like appearance. I saw probably 5 large pieces when the meteor turned from bright lime green to white, fall in what seemed scattered array, some larger than others My wife asked if it landed by Lawton, OK, it seemed that close. I told her it was probably over eastern Texas panhandle or southwest corner of Kansas. I think this as I saw no bright explosive sight like a fireworks display.
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
